Black River Gorges National Park

If you love to hike then head to this picturesque park. There are a variety of trails for you to choose from, the most popular hike is a leisurely hour long trek over 9km. This hike will take you to the Black River Peak viewpoint, this is the highest point on the whole of the island. It is an unbeatable view and a must see for anyone who thinks that they can get through the hike.

Grand Baie

You cannot go to Mauritius without heading to Grand Baie, it is the tourist hub of Mauritius. Here you will find number of popular beaches and other top attractions such as; the aquarium, a museum, rum tasting and the botanical gardens.

Port Louis

This is the capital city of Mauritius, here you will see the multi-cultural history that is on show through the French colonial architecture, Chinese and Indian temples and mosques. You will also be able to see the Natural History Museum and the Blue Penny Museum. If you want to get a panoramic view overlooking the city then head to the top of Signal Mountain – head up there at sunset for the best pictures.

Maison Eureka

This outstanding Creole mansion was at one time home to the most successful sugar baron on the island. It even has it’s own waterfall swimming hole! Stroll around this mansion and you most definitely will not be disappointed by what you see and the breath taking architecture.

The Bazar

If you want to load up your suitcase with local spices, arts and crafts and local delicacies then head down to the bazar. If you would like to indulge in some duty free shopping then head around the corner to stock up on some great designer fashion. Just make sure you have enough space in your suitcase to bring everything home. The last thing you want is to be paying for excess baggage! If you really do purchase a lot, then think about posting your goods back home.
