Simply, send

rg source-location-name to destination-name

to 56767.
(Small or capital case is fine for the entire SMS. But spaces or blanks are important.)

Example Request: Say, you need directions from South Extn Part II to Sarita Vihar, you may send:

rg south extn part ii to sarita vihar (SMS to 56767)

rg india gate to mayur vihar

rg cp to sector 18, noida

rg udyog vihar, gurgaon to maurya sheraton, delhi

rg iit campus to mega mall, gurgaon

Example Response (RouteHints™ SMS): “South Extn Part II (0.0 km) > Right onto RING ROAD (0.2 km) > SUN VILLAGE on right (1.8 km) > Right onto MATHURA ROAD (4.3 km) > FRIENDS PLAZA on right (5.8 km) > BATLIBOI on right (7.0 km) > Left onto ROAD NO 13A (9.3 km) > MALL (UNDER CONSTRUCTION) on left (9.4 km) > Sarita Vihar (10.4 km) AutoFare~ Rs. 55”.

NOTE:

1. The cost of the request is between Rs. 1 to Rs. 3 per Request-SMS, depending upon your telephony operator. This will appear in your monthly bill from your operator.

2.The service is presently available for Delhi-NCR geography. But the SMS request can be sent from anywhere in India.

Tip 1. First things first. You may want to store 56767 in your phonebook against a name which you want to remember it with, e.g. RouteGuru.

Tip 2. Next, you may want to store the request format rg A to B as a draft/template text-message on your phone, so that you can quickly form a request when you do need directions, rather than looking for the format then.

Tip 3. If you know a portion of the route, seek only the rest of it.

Example 1: If you want to go from A to B, and know how to reach until C (which you know falls on the way), you may want to request rg C to B.

Example 2: If you want to go from A to B, and know how to proceed once you have reached C, request rg A to C. (The way-point C needs to be a recognizable place-name, just like A and B.) Such thoughtful usage can greatly enhance your experience by focusing on the portion of route you do not know.

Tip 4. Avoid typing too much. You can use well-known abbreviations like CP for Connaught Place, RK Puram for Ramakrishna Puram, IIT for Indian Institute of Technology, etc.

Tip 5. Avoid using postal addresses or comma-separated address-formats. So, if you request “rg Block B, Vasant Vihar to Block N, Greater Kailash I”, our server may interpret it wrongly. Instead, you may request “rg Vasant Vihar to Greater Kailash I”.

Tip 6. For NCR directions (Faridabad, Noida, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad), a place-name may include the town-name.

Example: To get directions from Sector 2, Noida to DT Mega Mall, Gurgaon, you may send “rg Sector 2, Noida to DT Mega Mall, Gurgaon” to 56767. Also, as there is only one DT Mega Mall in NCR, the word Gurgaon can be skipped. But the same is not true with Sector 2.

Tip 7. If you misspell a place-name, we pick the closest match.

Tip 8. If multiple matches are found for a place-name, we pick any one of them.

Tip 9. When choosing a nearby landmark to define a place, choose well-known and unique landmark names wherever possible.

Tip 10. In case you do not have the request format handy when in need, simply send rg to 567676 and we send the format back to you.

Example: If ICICI Bank and Qutab Minar are your choices as landmarks for defining a location, choose Qutab Minar as it is only one. Locality names (with town names when necessary), are equally useful.
