Perran Springs – Family Camping in Cornwall

My wife and I had decided on a camping holiday with our two children and were searching the web for a suitable base from which to explore our favourite county, Cornwall. Some of the campsites looked great but didn’t hit the spot as it were. We focused our search somewhere near the Newquay area where she and I had spent two summers working and surfing when we at university many moons ago. We wanted a safe family environment rather than the hustle and bustle of a big brand name site, somewhere we were guaranteed a good nights sleep in order to be fresh for our daytime excursions. Luckily we discovered Perran Springs Holiday Park only five miles from Newquay and an ideal spot from which to launch into our adventure,

We took a leisurely drive down stopping off overnight in Bath to see some old friends from university before carrying on to Perran Springs the following morning, our home for the next two weeks. We received a warm welcome from the owners on our arrival and and were promptly shown to our pitch was near the fishing lakes which also had an electricity hook-up.After setting up our rather large tent, amidst lots of laughter, we found that there was still plenty of space left on our pitch. The shower block was absolutely immaculate, as high a standard as you would find in any good hotel. There was a modern laundry again spotlessly clean and a shop in which you could buy the basics as well as fishing tackle, that pleased my eldest son, a keen fisherman.

The first night there we decided not to cook and asked the owners to recommend¬† somewhere not too far away for dinner and were not disappointed when we ended up at the Plume of Feathers. The food was great and it was only five minutes away in a neighbouring village. The following day we just relaxed and stayed on site, our eldest took himself off fishing on one of the well stocked lakes while the youngest contented himself in the play area and the field, playing with the other children also staying there. We made enquiries with the owners about things to see and do, Newquay of course and we were also on historic Truro’s doorstep which gave us a great start. Our two weeks went sadly all too quickly and we were soon headed home with heavy hearts but with a multitude of fond memories, especially Perran Springs Holiday Camp. This is firmly number one in our charts for family camping in Cornwall. So don’t miss out, simply type in and your camping holiday will be underway.
